Tumeric

December 1st, 2011

Finish Position: 4th of 13

Tumeric raced gamely in between horses and raced four wide into the bend. He was hampered at the wire for third and despite an inquiry, was placed fourth.

Carolyn's Best

December 1st, 2011

Finish Position: 8th of 11

Carolyn's Best settled nicely for apprentice Jeffrey Alderson and made a lovely move going by the 3/8ths pole. Jeffrey commented that she picked up well for him, but flattened out in the final furlong.

Cairdeas

November 27th, 2011

Finish Position: 3rd of 8

I was delighted with Cairdeas' effort today. This race served as an excellent confidence builder for the young filly. Gerry Olguin commented that the filly was quite fractious in the gate and was attempting to rear when the gate opened and as a result she missed the start. Gerry felt that the poor start cost him at least two lengths, however he did not panic and allowed the filly to relax at the back of the field, gaining ground gradually after the 1/2 mile pole. Cairdeas accelerated well for Gerry through the turn heading for home and made up a ton of ground in the final furlong. The filly was beaten about 1/2 a length and galloped out strongly. Cairdeas ran on her own merit today without lasix and scoped clean after the race.

Cairdeas will now be turned out in a paddock over the winter and her exercise regime will be self regulated!

Carolyn's Best

November 23rd, 2011

Finish Position: 10th of 12

The filly broke well and raced mid-pack. David commented that at the 1/4 pole he felt that he had a good chance of finishing in the money. However, the filly did not quicken with the group and tired in the final furlong.

Celestial Fire

November 10th, 2011

Finish Position: 9th of 9

Celestial Fire broke a step behind the others, stalked the pace and tired in the final furlong. The horse was claimed and we wish the new connection the best of luck.

Carolyn's Best

November 6th, 2011

Finish Position: 12th of 12

In her first start, Carolyn's Best behaved professionally throughout the proceedings of the evening. I expect her to show a significant improvement in her next start. David Moran was instructed to provide the filly with a positive first race experience and that was achieved. We hope to build on her initial outing.

Cairdeas

October 30th, 2011

Finish Position: 8th of 9

Cairdeas was uncompetitive today at a trip that is shorter than her optimum. David Moran commented that she did everything right and tried her best, but was unable to make an impression on the leaders. She came out of the race unscathed and we will regroup and look to bring her back next time at a longer distance.

Dalida Cat

October 19th, 2011

Finish Position: 6th of 10

Dalida Cat kept up with the pace of the leader, however she was unsuccessful with her attempt to pass at the turn and finished the race in sixth. The filly was sound and scoped clean after the race.

Celestial Fire

October 12th, 2011

Finish Position: 2nd of 6

Celestial Fire broke well and sat behind the leaders heading into the first turn and drafted behind the winner down the backstretch. David hustled the colt past the 3/8ths pole and gamely fought back and held second place to the wire. The winner won easily going away. Celestial Fire came back to the barn sound and scoped clean.

Hoi An

October 10th, 2011

Finish Position: 5th of 8

David Moran commented that this distance did not suit the filly. She came back to the barn in one piece and scoped clean. Compared to her previous start on the polytrack, the filly moved much better today on the turf. Hoi An will be put away for the winter as she has been in full training for a considerable length of time and we will focus next year on turf races going long. She begins her winter holidays healthy and sound.

Cairdeas

October 1st, 2011

Finish Position: 6th of 10

Cairdeas competed today in a 7 furlong Maiden Allowance race carded for the turf, but run on the main track due to very heavy rainfall on Friday. The filly showed a marked improvement from her last race and gave a good effort finishing sixth. The filly came out of the race in good form and was not at all bothered by today's events. Once she was cooled out, she relaxed in her stall and happily ate her dinner. I cannot stress enough the importance of a horse being able to relax after racing. There is nothing worse than watching a horse stress and get worked up into a frenzy after a race.

Occasional View

September 30th, 2011

Finish Position: 5th of 8

Occasional View's race was taken off the turf due to heavy rainfall. Immediately prior to the race, the track took a good soaking with rain causing it to become 'mushy'. David commented that in turning for home, past the 1/4 pole, he felt sure that he was sitting on the winner. He felt that in the last sixteenth the horse lost his traction behind and was not traveling comfortably. I am prepared to throw out this race as I know the horse has a huge turn of foot, but did not have favourable conditions to execute today. He scoped clean and came back to the barn sound.

Young Bohemian

September 25th, 2011

Finish Position: 4th of 6

Young Bohemian went into this race in very good form, so naturally we were disappointed with today's effort. I know the horse is capable of much better given that his second lifetime start was very impressive and as I gallop him myself every morning, I know he has plenty of ability. David commented that the horse did not settle well on the rail nor did he like to be boxed in. I would expect him to race back sooner rather than later and with a better post position draw, I would remain optimistic that he will soon break his maiden.

Empire Rising

September 24th, 2011

Finish Position: 7th of 7

The gelding raced just off of, or on the lead, for most of the race and as explained by David, came under pressure when a horse moved to his outside. We will put a set of blinkers on him for his next start and hope for a better result.

Hoi An

September 15th, 2011

Finish Position: 5th of 6

Hoi An gave a disappointing effort today. She is sound and scoped clean. She will be turned out in a paddock for a few weeks.

Occasional View

August 28th, 2011

Finish Position: 5th of 12 (beaten 2L+)

Occasional View broke well and was knocked around a bit after leaving the gate.  David got him to settle beautifully at the back of the group and watched from behind as the field bunched up heading into the turn.  Turning for home David could see no clear run through the group and opted to take the horse clear out of trouble to the outside.  Occasional View showed a brilliant turn of foot and made up plenty of ground to finish just over 2 lengths back from the front.

The horse returned to the barn full of life and scoped clean.  It was a beautiful evening after the wind died down a bit and the colt enjoyed a nice graze on the grass.  I am delighted with his performance; Occasional View proved himself to be a graded stakes horse today.

Young Bohemian

August 28th, 2011

Finish Position: 2nd of 7 (beaten 1.5L)

Young Bohemian jumped into contention early and was asked to sit just off of the leaders.  I wanted him to be closer to the pace today for a more productive learning experience than his last race.  David ensured the big horse did not get trapped inside and allowed him to follow the pace comfortably down the backside.  Between the 3/8ths and 1/4 pole the group quickened and the horse responded to continue after the pace setter.  David commented that this second time starter was still green and when he switched his stick to his left hand the horse responded well and gave chase.  The horse is still learning but has come home to the barn in great form -scoped clean and looking for his dinner.  Young Bohemian will be tough to beat in his next start.

Hoi An

August 27th, 2011

Finish Position: 11 of 11

Hoi An was hustled early to join the pacemaker.  David commented that she broke badly but righted herself and moved well into contention.  The filly tired 6 furlongs into the race, after maintaining a hot pace, and David wrapped up on her down the stretch.

Empire Rising

August 14th, 2011

Finish Position: 7th of 9

Empire Rising did not compete today with the same vigor he showed in his previous start on the grass.  David Moran commented that the gelding did not jump onto the bridle at any point during the race, but rather he had to push him the whole way. He will make his next appearance back on the turf where he has much better action and form.

Occasional View

Finish Position: 1st of 9

August 13th, 2011

Occasional View jumped beautifully and settled towards the back of the field for David Moran in this 6.5 furlong test on the grass.  Straightening up for home the opening on the rail closed in front of him and David found himself behind a wall of horses.  Pulling the colt wide the pair made a hole to go through and Occasional View responded with a burst of speed. The 3 year old colt won comfortably with his ears pricked forward at the wire.

Cairdeas

August 11th, 2011

Finish Position: 11 out of 11

Cairdeas broke well from the gate on her debut and was quickly bumped from her left and right side, the filly did well to maintain her momentum and continue to gallop through tight quarters.  She raced well although she tired mid-stretch.  David Moran commented that he only showed her the stick and was careful to give her a positive experience in her first race. The filly raced without lasix and scoped clean after the race.  She received a decent cut to her front left leg, at some point during the race, and was quite lucky this did not involve important soft-tissue structures.

Race Replay: Race #8 August 11th

Occasional View

August 1st, 2011

Finish Position: 4th out of 11

Occasional View broke well and settled nicely for David Moran behind a hot pace. In passing the 3/8ths pole, David called on the horse to run and he gamely followed the eventual winner, losing no ground until the final 50 yards. The colt was beaten by two lengths and finished fourth. He lost third place in a show photo.

Hoi An

July 31st, 2011

Finish Position: 3rd out of 10

Hoi An, by SUCCESFUL APPEAL a half sister to Grade 1 winner SQUARE EDDIE, earned valuable black type today in a Canadian Classic. Arravale Racing’s statistics read as: 2 wins, 1 second and 2 thirds, from 5 starts in Canadian Classics, to retain our 100% in the money record.

Hoi An was a brave 3rd in the 1 mile and ¼ Wonder Where Stakes. Away from the gate sharply, the filly led the field into the first turn, allowing David Moran to run on the best ground down the backstretch. The filly led an honest pace and was still in front turning for home. She gave a gutsy performance down the straight and was beaten by two better horses, on the day, for 1st and 2nd. She was headed for 3rd in the final 1/16, but bravely fought back and regained 3rd place.

The filly returned to the barn tuckered out, but in good shape. She scoped clean after the race. David Moran commented that he was delighted with her efforts and that she ran gamely and honestly throughout the race.

Race Replay: Race #8 July 31st

Grace O'Malley

July 30th, 2011

Finish Position: 10th out of 10

I think this was an excellent learning experience for the filly and I would think that she is more suited to either a race on the polytrack or a firm turf course.

Race Replay: Race #4 July 30th

Celestial Fire

July 29th, 2011

Finish Position: 9th out of 14

Celestial Fire broke awkwardly, trailed the field and made a mild rally in the straight. David commented that the colt did not back off the bridle and ran on in the final furlong after a slow start.

Race Replay: Race #5 July 29th

Empire Rising

July 20th, 2011

Finish Position: 1st out of 9

Empire Rising was placed nicely today, in a $40,000 claiming race, on the turf at 1 1/16 miles. He broke well and was soon leading the field down the backstretch. He maintained the lead throughout the race and quickened well for Davy in the final 1/16, winning nicely. David commented that the gelding galloped out very strongly and that he had difficulty pulling him up. The horse endured significant heat today, with humidity temperatures as high as 41°C, as a result extra time was taken to ensure his body temperature was lowered to a safe level.

I was delighted to learn that he scoped clean.

This is an excellent result for the team in the barn.

Young Bohemian

July 14th, 2011

Finish Position: 5th out of 6

Young Bohemian ran very well for his first start. He broke nicely and settled out the back of the field. Given that this was his first race, he handled himself very well. He drew post position one and travelled on the rail for the duration of the race and was in the line for quite a bit of kickback. David Moran commented that the horse traveled beautifully, but was green from the ¼ pole to the wire; as the other horses quickened, he got left behind a little bit. Since this was Young Bohemian’s first race, David did not overuse the whip. The horse did run on for him as they went by the wire. Overall, this was an excellent learning experience and I hope to see him improve a good deal as he comes out of this race.

Hoi An

July 9th, 2011

Finish Position: 4th of 7

David Moran’s Comments: “The filly broke fine from the gate and initially settled. Down the backstretch she was hampered badly and forced to check. There was plenty of bumping and she began to run free as a result. She came home well and was still running on at the wire.”

The filly appears to have come out of the race in good shape. She ran on well for fourth, but there is a better race in her.

Race Replay: Race #8 July 9th

Hoi An

June 5th, 2011

Finish Position: 3rd of 10

David Moran’s comments: David was very happy with how the filly ran. She settled into a nice position coming out of the gate and while she was bumped at the 1/8th pole, she still gave a good account of herself. David felt that the distance suited her and she galloped out strongly.

Hoi An came out of her race in great shape, ate her dinner and was in good spirits this morning.

Sense of Pride

May 14, 2011

Finish Position: 2nd of 8

Sense of Pride gave a great effort to run second to a rising star from Adena Springs. David Moran rode the filly and gave her a great ride on the rail, he comments: "The filly gave me a great feel throughout and came on again when asked in the final 100 yards but the winner was too good." Sense of Pride scoped clean and initially appears to have come out of the race in good shape.

Race Replay: Race #2 May 14th

Sense Of Pride

April 24 2011

Finish Position: 2nd of 7

Comments:  Gerry Olguin rode the filly and was able to set his own fractions comfortably. He commented, after the race, that the filly did everything right for him and galloped strongly for home. Gerry said the first time starter, a Kentucky bred by Ghostzapper named Skylara, "came out of nowhere" and just caught him before the wire.  Sense Of Pride ran very well and we will see how she is over the next week before making further race date decisions with owner Ron Kirk.

Manx Miss

12-04-10

Finish Position 2nd of 10

Comments: Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson: "I was very happy with the way she ran, Manx Miss travelled comfortably and on the bridle throughout"

Lisvernane

12-04-10

Finish Position 7th of 9

Comments: According to jockey David Moran, Lisvernane ran well for the first half mile but flattened out after that. Turning for home she 'spat out the bit', or backed out of the race a little bit.

Manx Miss

11-06-10

Finish Position 3rd of 10

Comments: According to jockey Emile Ramsammy, Manx Miss ran gamely. She just needed a faster pace up front, to make better use of her turn of foot.

Lisvernane

10-30-10

Princess Elizabeth Stakes

Finish Position 2nd of 10

Comments: David Moran, who flew over from Ireland for the ride, had this to say about Lisvernane's run in the Princess Elizabeth: "The pace was somewhat slow right out of the gate so I hurried her into a nice position.  I thought she would finish further back but she fought on to get back up for second. No excuses, she was beat by a better horse on the day, she gave me everything she had."

Bru Boru

09-23-10

Finish Position 4th of 7

Comments: Bru Boru raced between horses and backed off in the far turn.  He would hold his position for fourth.  The horse has come out of the race in good order and will come back to race soon as he is no worse for wear.

Lisvernane

09-19-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position 3rd of 9

Comments: Jockey Omar Moreno commented that the filly broke and travelled great throughout the race; although she did try to move to the outside down the backstretch, she settled and focused turning for home. Lisvernane ran an honest race and looks more than comfortable covering two turns.

Tir Chonaill

09-16-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position 4th of 5

Comments:  After the race Corey Fraser stated that the colt was traveling very well down the backstretch and Corey thought he had plenty of horse heading into the turn.  However, the horse would not respond when asked to run on.  Tir Chonaill has come out of his race in good order and will be gelded prior to his next start.  This procedure is often done to keep the horse focused on his day job.

Lassair

09-09-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 8th of 10

Comments: According to jockey Omar Moreno, Lassair moved really well on the turf. She got behind a wall of horses turning for home and flattened out in the final furlong.

De Danann

09-03-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 7th of 9

Comments: De Danann broke on top, ran up close near the front and was a factor in the turn, then tired down the stretch.

Tir Chonaill

08-29-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 9th of 10

Comments: Tir Chonaill broke well and raced mid-pack. Jockey Corey Fraser thought that the horse moved better on the PolyTrack, and suggested that we give him a try on that surface.

Bru Boru

08-29-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 5th of 10

Comments: Bru Boru broke well and raced mid-pack. Jockey Omar Moreno did not feel that the horse had the same explosive 'turn of foot' that was evident in his last start on the PolyTrack. Omar commented that the horse handled the ground.

Lassair

08-21-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 4th of 8

Comments:  Lassair broke alertly and moved well down the backstretch.  Prior to the turn the number 1 horse changed lanes and squeezed Lassair back forcing David Clark to check and try for the inside.  As the field moved around the bend Flo's Henny under Emma-Jayne Wilson took a bad step and unseated Wilson, who was very lucky to be able to eventually walk away from the incident.  David Clark checked again as did the rest of the field in an attempt to not trample Wilson.  David didn't ask Lassair for much after the quarter pole after having such a terrible trip prior to that.

In hindsight Lassair was quite lucky to have been impeded early in the race, if she was left to run her race, she would have been placed directly behind Flo's Henny.

The filly returned to the barn with minor cuts but otherwise unharmed and not bothered by the events.

De Danann

08-06-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 10th of 12

Comments:  De Danann broke nicely and was perfectly positioned, sitting behind the leaders on the backstretch. She was bumped repeatedly in the turn and again coming down the straight; she had no opportunity to run on.

Lisvernane

07-31-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 4th of 11

Comments:  For her second start Lisvernane was still a bit green and being on the turf course for the first time looked around a good bit. Emma-Jayne Wilson commented that the filly ran willingly, however she wants more ground.  Lisvernane galloped out very well past the wire and came home in good shape.

Lassair

07-31-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 7th of 9

Comments:  Lassair had a better experience in the running of this race compared to her first start.  The filly tired in the final furlong and was all out at the wire.  Emma-Jayne commented that she ran well and had given everything she had.

Bru Boru

07-25-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 2nd of 8

Comments:  In an impressive display, Bru Boru sprinted clear of the eight-horse field early, setting the pace. He had command of the field through the stretch, and was just caught by the winner at the wire, finishing second by a length. Omar Moreno was very happy with the gelding, stating that he ran a strong race and was only caught at the wire.

Tir Chonaill

07-24-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 7th of 7

Comments:  Emma-Jayne Wilson stated that the colt did not pick up the bridle at any point during the race.  While he seemed to travel ok on the surface, the horse would not pick up when asked.  We will see how he is in the morning.

Lisvernane

07-18-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 4th of 12

Comments: Robert Landry stated that he was very happy with the filly's first race.  He could see that the traffic leading into the turn was heavy and decided to angle the filly (8 lanes) wide to ensure her first race experience had a clear run.  Lisvernane ran very much like her mother and made up a good amount of ground, running on very strongly.  Robert commented that she galloped out very well.

Lassair
07-18-10 Woodbine Race Result

Finish Position: 11th of 12

Comments: David Clark was very happy with the filly considering a troubled trip.  He said the filly was 'on the bridle' and moving very well, however, going into the turn the filly got knocked about and David was forced to 'check' or take back the filly.  At this point he said the race was over for her as she did not regain momentum in the melee.  The filly returned to the barn with cuts and scrapes to her hind legs.

Roan Inish
07-04-2010 Result Woodbine Racetrack

Woodbine Race # 10
Finish Position: 3rd of 13

Comments: David Moran was thrilled with the performance of ROAN INISH in the Queen's Plate against the boys.  On a track which was very firm on the day and favouring front-running horses, the filly ran a huge race to finish third.
Turning for home Moran comments that he had plenty of horse under him however the speed continued to hold for Big Red Mike as it had done for the previous races on the card.
The filly has come out of the race in good form and she will be refreshed for a target date of August 21st to run in the Grade One Alabama Stakes in Saratoga going 10 furlongs on the dirt.
