Why do horses wear blinkers in races?

Last updated on 2010-09-30

Blinkers help to keep a horse focused on what is in front of him during a race. Blinkers are used on horses that tend to look around too much during a race, and need some help focusing on the task at hand. Some times blinkers have small holes cut in the sides, allowing the horse to see other horses as they come up along side him during the race.
